An article examined evidence on financial exclusion in Britain in relation to: access to banking services, credit, household insurance, personal savings and assets; money advice provision; and financial capability. The work identified continuing problems of access to mainstream banking services and a lack of appropriate and affordable credit provision. Comparing the British case with that of Europe, the article raised questions about how financial inclusion should be defined, and whether existing indicators were adequate across differing social, institutional and regulatory contexts.
